Some people say you can paint without mastering drawing. I disagree.

Monday, yesterday I awoke with a bad earache. I have a infection in it. This has slowed me down a lot. I pushed myself to at least sketch, instead of sleeping all day. Especially, seeing how beautiful the weather is, I would be a shame to sleep through it. For practice, I did some anatomical work. I did drive to the park and sat in the grass near the "Temple to Music". You should see it is a beautiful building. But, no great moment of inspiration here, just practice. This is all I have to meagerly present for yesterday and today's "Daily Painting".

I got creative today and worked in pen and ink with brush washes. Then when I uploaded it, i got really crazy and made a digital color version with Gimp. The title is "the Sorceress or I told you not to piss my Little Sister off"

Daily Painting

Today's painting is considered fan art. It is based on the comic book character "Jungle Girl". I don't do a lot of fan art, but she seemed to good of a subject to pass up.

Mini Mermaid and More Sideshow Inspired Work

More Sideshow inspired work. The Maine Mystery Beast (Acrylic on press board) has round side flash emblems I need to glue on. Shrair of the Jungle (16"by20" Acrylic on Canvas Board) is after a uncredited black and white picture. She is my daily painting for yesterday and the Mini Mermaid (6"by4" Acrylic on Canvas Board) is for today.

Two Sideshow Banner Signs

Two Sideshow Signs in the style of classic sideshow banners. The Wild Woman is Acrylic on found panel, and the Torture Show is Acrylic on pressboard.

The Torture Show is Ses Carney and Wyck's, The American Madmen, show at King Richard's Faire. Worth seeing, but not for the kids or squeamish.

Why The Itinerant Painter

Daily painting seems like such a great idea. However, the ability to complete a painting everyday is a little to much for a working class guy. I thought of the 19th century American Itinerant Painters who did what then had to do. Someday struggling to finish a series of portraits, others turning to odd jobs and sign painting to eat. These men were practical, but they were artist. Working class artist. This blog is for my art. More practical than a daily painting blog, but it is my art.
